Sawmill Fire Prompts Nearly Four-Hour Response in Pike County

PIKE COUNTY, Ohio — Fire crews battled a sawmill fire Friday evening after the Elm Grove Fire Department was dispatched to a blaze on No Name Road in Newton Township.

The call came in at approximately 6:37 p.m. on July 17. Crews from Elm Grove Fire Department Stations 1 and 2 responded, with mutual aid requested from the Waverly Fire Department and Piketon Seal Township Fire Department.

Firefighters remained on scene for nearly four hours and used an estimated 24,000 gallons of water to battle the fire.

The Elm Grove Fire Department thanked assisting agencies, including Waverly Fire Department, Piketon Fire Department, Portsmouth Ambulance, and the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, for providing additional personnel and equipment during the response.

No injuries were reported. Further details about the cause of the fire were not immediately available.
