Athens County Deputies Handle Theft Report, Welfare Checks, Gunshot Complaint and Other Calls Tuesday
ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio — Athens County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to several incidents across the county on Tuesday, July 14, including a theft complaint, multiple welfare checks, a report of possible gunshots, and an intoxicated person requiring medical assistance.
According to the sheriff's office daily media report, deputies began the day responding to a walk-in complaint at the Athens County Sheriff's Office shortly after 8:20 a.m. Deputies took a report and returned to patrol. The case remains open and active.
Around 8:41 a.m., deputies were dispatched to Dean Road in Glouster for a reported theft. According to the incident report, the complainant said their daughter had taken property without permission but had since returned it.
Deputies advised the complainant about the option of pursuing an unruly child complaint if the behavior continued and advised them to contact the sheriff's office if further issues occurred. The case was closed.
Later Tuesday afternoon, deputies assisted the Ohio State Highway Patrol with traffic control on U.S. Route 50 near Harmony Road in Athens after a reported traffic hazard. The incident was closed following the assistance provided.
Deputies also conducted two separate welfare checks Tuesday evening.
At approximately 5:08 p.m., deputies responded to Mason Street in Trimble for a well-being check. Units attempted to make contact at the residence but were unsuccessful.
About an hour and a half later, deputies were called to Baker Road in Athens for another welfare check. Deputies made contact with the individual involved, and officials reported that everything checked out.
Around 5:37 p.m., deputies responded to Webb Avenue in Doanville following a report of possible gunshots. Deputies patrolled the area but reported they did not hear any gunfire or observe anyone with a firearm.
The final call of the day came just before 8 p.m. when deputies responded to the intersection of Fourth Street and Main Street in Coolville for a report of an intoxicated male. According to the sheriff's office, emergency medical services responded and transported the individual to the hospital for further treatment.
The Athens County Sheriff's Office reported a total of seven incidents investigated during Tuesday's reporting period.
