Scioto County to Host First-Ever Revolutionary War Encampment as Part of America250 Celebration

WEST PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — History will come to life in Scioto County next month as the community hosts its first annual Revolutionary War Encampment, offering visitors a chance to experience colonial America through reenactments, demonstrations, and hands-on activities.

The two-day event will take place Saturday, Aug. 15, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Earl Thomas Conley Riverside Park in West Portsmouth. The encampment is part of Ohio's America250 celebration commemorating the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding.

Visitors can expect Revolutionary War reenactors portraying colonial soldiers and civilians, historic weapons demonstrations, guest speakers discussing America250-related topics, colonial-era games and crafts for children, food trucks, and sutlers offering period-style goods for sale.

Organizers say attendees will have opportunities to interact with reenactors and learn about daily life during the Revolutionary War through living history demonstrations designed for all ages.

The event is free and open to the public.
