Ohio EPA Accepting Applications for Environmental Education Grants of Up to $25,000

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency is accepting applications for the next round of grants through the Ohio Environmental Education Fund, offering up to $25,000 for projects that promote environmental education across the state.

The funding is available to support educational programs for audiences ranging from preschool students to university classrooms, as well as teachers, community organizations, the general public and Ohio's regulated business community.

The grant program includes mini-grants ranging from $500 to $5,000 and general grants between $5,001 and $25,000.

Applications must be submitted through the Ohio EPA's eBusiness Center by 5 p.m. on Aug. 14. Applicants are required to obtain a State of Ohio ID number and establish an Ohio EPA eBusiness Center account before applying. Agency officials also encourage prospective applicants to discuss project ideas with an Ohio Environmental Education Fund coordinator before submitting proposals.

For the 2027 state fiscal year, Ohio EPA has identified several funding priorities, including projects that:

  • Encourage students to pursue careers in environmental fields.

  • Promote habitat and ecological restoration.

  • Improve air quality by reducing emissions through energy conservation and alternative energy sources.

  • Strengthen planning and emergency preparedness for environmental releases and extreme weather events.

  • Improve water quality by reducing nutrient pollution and preventing harmful algal blooms.

  • Reduce lead exposure in drinking water.

  • Reduce exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), commonly known as "forever chemicals."

  • Explore the relationship between environmental conditions and human health, including air quality, respiratory illnesses, Lyme disease, mosquitoes, and scrap tire management.

The Ohio Environmental Education Fund supports projects designed to increase environmental awareness and encourage stewardship through education and community engagement.

Additional application instructions and eligibility requirements are available through the Ohio EPA's Office of Environmental Education.
