Ohio EPA Weekly Wrap-Up: Southern Ohio Receives Wastewater Funding, Jackson County Air Permit Filed
SOUTHERN OHIO — The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency took several actions affecting communities across southern Ohio during the week of July 6-12, including approving funding for household sewage treatment system repairs in four counties, issuing a sanitary sewer permit in Vinton County, and processing an air permit renewal application in Jackson County.
Wastewater Funding Approved
The Ohio EPA approved applications through the Water Pollution Control Loan Fund to help repair and replace failing household sewage treatment systems in four counties:
Pickaway County General Health District received approval for funding to repair or replace household sewage treatment systems throughout the county.
Pike County General Health District received funding approval for similar household sewage treatment system improvements.
Scioto County was also approved for financial assistance to repair or replace failing septic systems.
Vinton County received approval for funding to complete household sewage treatment system repairs and replacements.
The projects are intended to improve wastewater treatment, protect groundwater, and reduce the risk of pollution from failing septic systems.
Vinton County Sewer Project Moves Forward
The Ohio EPA also issued a final Permit to Install for a sanitary sewer project for the Village of McArthur on July 7. The permit allows the village to move forward with the approved sewer infrastructure project.
Jackson County Manufacturer Seeks Air Permit Renewal
In Jackson County, the Ohio EPA received an application from Speyside Bourbon Cooperage, Inc. to renew its air permit.
The application covers the continued operation of the company's barrel manufacturing process, including process equipment, a wood-fired boiler used for steam production and facility heating, and a natural gas-fired boiler that provides supplemental steam and heat.
The application is currently under review by the Ohio EPA.
