Circleville Man Among Graduates of Ohio Fire Academy’s Latest Firefighter Class
COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Circleville resident is among the newest firefighters prepared to serve communities across Ohio after completing an intensive training program through the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of State Fire Marshal’s Ohio Fire Academy.
Tyler A. Cavanaugh of Circleville was recognized as a member of Firefighter Class 244 during a graduation ceremony held July 10 at the State Fire Marshal’s campus in Reynoldsburg.
The class included 34 graduates from communities throughout Ohio and Pennsylvania who successfully completed the academy’s demanding 10-week, 468-hour firefighter training program.
The Ohio Fire Academy’s program combines classroom instruction, hands-on training, and physical preparation to equip students with the skills needed to begin careers in the fire service. Graduates earned their Firefighter I & II state certifications, along with eight additional certifications available through the academy.
Training covered a wide range of essential firefighting skills, including emergency response operations, firefighter safety, leadership, teamwork, professionalism, apparatus pumping, and emergency vehicle operation.
Ohio State Fire Marshal Kevin Reardon praised the dedication shown by the graduating class.
“Each of these graduates has shown exceptional commitment throughout this demanding training,” Reardon said. “The skills they’ve gained at the Ohio Fire Academy have prepared them to serve Ohioans with professionalism and purpose.”
Reardon encouraged the graduates to continue developing their skills and remain committed to serving their communities.
“Stay dedicated, keep learning, and stay rooted in service to your communities,” he said.
The academy’s rigorous training is designed to prepare new firefighters for the challenges they will face in the field, from emergency response situations to working as part of a coordinated fire crew.
Among the graduates, Christopher Kimball of Reynoldsburg said he plans to take the lessons learned at the academy into his firefighting career with the Columbus Division of Fire.
“I want to carry the grit, hard work, and dedication I gained from this class into the Columbus Division of Fire, where I intend to build my entire career,” Kimball said.
Aidan Deardorff of Lebanon also credited the academy’s instructors with helping prepare him for future emergency calls.
“The instructors were excellent—they guided me whenever something wasn’t quite right and showed me how to improve so I’ll know exactly what to do during future responses,” Deardorff said.
The Ohio Fire Academy says graduates are now equipped with the certifications and training necessary to begin serving as firefighters throughout the region.
